Welcome to the Gun Toting Journalist

During the course of my 20 + year career as a photojournalist, I’ve met many people that believe all members of the media are liberals and / or anti-gun.  I’ve started this blog because I am a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment.

My goal is to share personal experiences as both a member of the press and as a gun owner. I plan to post and follow important legislation that will affect our rights as American citizens to own and use our guns, and more importantly, I’m going to search each day for positive gun news, something that lacks in the main-stream media.

I’d like to start with some positive news out of Washington DC.  As many of you know, during campaigning for the November Presidential elections, Barack Obama and Joe Biden strongly supported the permanent renewal of the 1994 Assault Weapons ban. Knowledge of the Obama/Biden stance on so called “assault weapons” drove a buying frenzy starting in September and is still continuing. While I’m going to fore-go discussing “assault weapons” for the time being, it seems that many Democrats are remembering what happened to their party following the 1994 ban, most who supported the ban were voted out in the following election, giving control of Congress and the Senate back to the Republicans.

Recently, Attorney General Eric Holder brought up the assault weapons ban and not only was quickly blasted by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, but 65 Democrats sent a letter to the AG telling him that they will not support a new ban.

Below is a list of the 65 that signed. If your representative is on the list, be sure to write them and thank them!
